15 Dumb Websites to Kill Time

April 30
Summary

Let’s face it, we’ve all been there. You’re staring at your computer screen, that looming deadline feels miles away, and productivity has flown out the window. The urge to succumb to the allure of the internet beckons. But where do you go? Social media is a bottomless pit, and news sites can be a bit too heavy for a mental break. Fear not, weary warriors of procrastination! This list is for you. We’re diving into the wonderful world of “dumb websites.” These aren’t the places you go to learn groundbreaking information or revolutionize your workflow. These are the websites you visit when you just need a few minutes to clear your head and indulge in a little mindless fun.

The 15 Dumb Websites

1. Hacker Typer

dumb websites

Hacker Typer is the perfect cosplay simulator if you want to dress like you are in The Matrix. After being redirected, you see a green text command-line interface that looks like it belongs in a 1990s hacker movie. Even though the website is only a simulator, it is still entertaining to play pranks or trolls with it.

2. Maze Toys

dumb websites

This next one is a real time-waster, so beware. Maze Toys is not only a great pastime for puzzle enthusiasts, but it was also one of Tim Holland’s creations, the man behind The Dumb Web. I am a big fan. For those of us who enjoy puzzle games and need to kill some time, it offers three distinct maze games: Just Maze, Faultless, and Race the Clock. It is entertaining and interactive. Make sure you have some free time before playing Just Maze; it took me forty-five minutes to finish.

3. WindowSwap

dumb websites

Well, where do you start using WindowSwap? Is it voyeuristic in an odd way? Yes, without a doubt. However, is it also… fulfilling? Real-time video footage captured from windowsills all over the world has a lot of appeal because it is reassuring and uplifting. It is a person. “People from around the world share the view from their windows to help someone else relax, focus, meditate, and travel without moving,” according to the website for Window Swap, an artistic endeavor. I am looking out Cara’s window right now; she has such a beautiful view. It is located in Austria’s Innerbraz. My heart is content.

4. Radiooooo

dumb websites

Have you ever wanted to know what was on the radio in Paris in the 1930s? How about Taiwan in the 1970s? Yes? Do you need the time machine that I have? Radiooooo is really really awesome. You only need to select the decade and the nation to go back in time and hear the same forgotten music that your grandparents used to love. This website is so creative; it is a great way to find “new” old music to add to your playlist. You can download it from the app store of your choice or visit the website to learn more.

5. Pointer Pointer

Pointer Pointer is a really arbitrary webpage. After moving your cursor over the screen and waiting for approximately three seconds, a picture of a person, object, or group of people will show up with their cursor pointing straight at it. These someones, who are they? They appear like really pleasant folks from the early 2000s, but I am not sure. I am a little FOMO-nostalgic for those lovely, carefree, pre-modern social media days because I was a child there.

6. Mondrian and Me

dumb websites

Another entertaining, pointless website with an artistic twist is Mondrian and Me, which was created by the same amazing mind that brought us Maze Toys. You can explore your “artistry” on this interactive point-and-click website while passing the time and enjoying some classic procrastination.

7. Bored Button

dumb websites

There is only one button on the internet that can help you feel less bored, and that is the Bored Button. When you are directed, it appears as a big, bright red fire truck button. Just click the big red button and use your own discretion. The Bored Button offers a ton of interesting and entertaining online games, quizzes, memes, and more.

8. Always Judge a Book by its Cover

dumb websites

Another Tim Holland creation on our list, but instead of a game, this one is a cleverly named Always Judge a Book by its Cover web page with strange book recommendations. Always Judge a Book by its Cover is the ideal place to get your next funny gift online. It features adult coloring books like Florida Man and books like Toilet Paper Origami and How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack. With a website tagline like “Some books win awards, some win our hearts and others… only serve to confuse,” these are definitely the kind of books you would expect. Well said.

9. Ffffidget

The fidget spinner on the internet is the ffffidget website. What a wonderfully dumb website, hehe! Put it on the list. It spins when you click it, then stops spinning, and so on. Do not be discouraged if the virtual version is not quite right for you. By clicking the link in the lower right corner of the ffffidget website, you can purchase a real-life fidget spinner.

10. Try PaP

Try PaP is the only place to go if you need a silly smile or to see how strong your password is. The passive-aggressive password machine, or PaP for short, is a creation of Tobias van Schneider and Tim Holland, and it is not totally worthless. Enter the text box and, as Try PaP puts it, “Imagine your in-laws are helping you with a password… this is what they would say.” It is a fun way to test the strength of your password.

11. Smash the Walls

dumb websites

Another interactive but incredibly dumb website is Smash the Walls, where you click on the colorful walls and watch them crumble to reveal another colorful wall. However, feel free to experiment if you enjoy vivid, candy-colored, neon graphic webpages that collapse and reveal the next. This is your dumb website.

12. Weird or Confusing

Weird or Confusing website

Looking to purchase something more bizarre or cryptic than the strange books listed above? Tim Holland will take care of you. Weird or Confusing is the dumb website for this exact niche, whether you want to delve into the depths of the strange things available online or need an unusual gift.

13. The Zen Zone

The Zen Zone

Ah, another Tim Holland gift: The Zen Zone. If you want to spend a little time in silence and meditation, the Zen Zone is the ideal place to go. Hey, not every ridiculous website you find online has to be ridiculous. Nothing like doge memes, flashing wacky graphics, or cat GIFs with laser eyes. You are alone in the most tranquil places on the internet, carried there by the wholesomely straightforward user interface. Select either break, swirl, or switch, then launch the games.

14. Fish Feeder

"</p

Fish Feeder by Creative Tech Guy is reminiscent of an ode to the early internet. It is a pointless diversion that embodies the early 2000s Microsoft Paint aesthetic. Although it may not be to everyone’s taste, Jason O’Neill offers services if you enjoy buying, selling, and raising fish as a way to pass the time.

15. 2048

2048

A lighthearted look back at high school For those born in the 2000s, 2048 was the answer to sudoku. For my part, I can recall being completely awful at the game but still being enthralled. As an adult, I used to really enjoy playing the game and killing time while my dopamine was racing through my head until I remembered that I had work to do.
